Mobile device capture case

Modern mobile devices produce a lot of network traffic, that can be hard to completely capture because of the multiple communication technologies used (Bluetooth, cellular network, wifi etc.)

Goal

The goal of this project is to create a case that allows to easily capture the network traffic of a mobile device. The case will actually be a Faraday enclosure with an built-in access point. All the traffic captured by the access point will be captured and stored, for example on a USB key plugged on the outside of the case.

The case will probably be equipped with some micro computer (like a Raspberry Pi) to run the network traffic recording software (like tcpdump, for example). Moreover, additional tools can be installed on the micro computer to add additional features: inetsim, fakenet etc.

Expected outcome

  • a demonstrator
  • source code on our GitLab server
  • 1 blog post
  • 1 poster
  • a project report
